| Little Winners Nursery Develop Outside Play Area |
Middlewood Winners Ltd is a community enterprise formed by local residents of the Winn Gardens estate. Little Winners Nursery is housed within a refurbished former park pavilion offering a thirty place, all year round childcare facility for children aged 0 – 4 years. The Nursery team have recently altered and upgraded an area outside the Nursery, enabling the children increased access to the outdoors. This new outdoor space catches the sun throughout the day, creating a warm and attractive place for children to play. The majority of the area is grass, surrounding an established tree, which provides adequate protection from the sun. The Nursery contacted local providers, including a tree surgeon that was in the working in the park alongside the Nursery, to encourage costs to be minimal. No external funding had been sought to re develop this area and therefore it was essential the area could be utilised on a minimal budget. By sourcing local companies the Nursery not only supported the local community / economy but made essential contacts and partnerships. The local tree surgeon offered to supply the logs which the children now use as stepping stones, a local wood merchant provided the wooden posts at cost, making no profit for themselves. Little Winners Nursery aims to further improve this area in to the next twelve months, using more natural materials to enhance this already popular outdoor play space. The next step is the development of a wooden train, which is underway currently. If you would like more information on Little Winners Nursery or about this development please contact Jane Darby on 0114 2855005 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
